Algeria’s energy ministry instructs regulator to work on oil production cuts

13 December 2016

Algeria’s energy ministry has sent instructions to its oil sector regulator to begin production cuts of 50,000 b/d with effect from January 1.
The December 11 letter to regulator, the Agence National pour la Valorisation des Resources en Hydrocarbures, or Alnaft, asks that the reduction of 50,000 b/d of hydrocarbon liquids will be divided equally between all contractors, the energy ministry said.

The instructions follow Algeria’s participation in the latest gathering of OPEC producers in Vienna over the weekend, where the group managed to secure the support of 11 other oil nations in a joint output cut pact.
