CNOOC has built China’s first offshore wind power platform

01 April 2023

It was built by China National Offshore Petroleum Corporation (CNOOC).

China’s first floating offshore wind power platform will be installed near the southern Chinese province of Hainan. The corresponding installation was recently sent from the city of Zhuhai to Hainan for installation in the waters of the island. It is planned to be installed 136 km from the coast near the city of Wenchang. The design capacity of the platform is 7.27 megawatts.

This object, called CNOOC Guanlan, weighs about 4 thousand tons, and reaches a height of 35 meters. After the platform is put into operation, it will be connected to the power grid of a number of offshore oil and gas fields. It will be able to generate up to 22 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 22 thousand tons.
