Ecologists blocks oil exploration at the oil field in Mongolia
«Mongolia Gladwill Uvs Petroleum LLC» had to stop oil exploration near the Lake Uvs-Nuur in the western part of Mongolia. Local environmental organization put spokes in the wheel of business.
«Mongolia Gladwill Uvs Petroleum LLC» started oil exploration in August last year. The company received special licenses back in 2011. Hong Kong businessmen became investors of the project.
However they faced curtain difficulties from the very start. Local people did not like the plans and launched protest campaign. They were supported by local ecologists from NGO «Green Union – Mongolia of the World» and called for the works suspension, which were illegal in their opinion. Green Union believes that oil production threatens to the lake ecosystem.
The aimak’s Governor, where the exploration is held, gave directions to stop the works after receiving numerous claims from the local people and environmental organizations.

The company’s representatives see the problem in the absence of the production sharing agreement with the Mongolian Government.
