Equinor has received permission to drill an exploration well near the Kveikje field

Norwegian energy giant Equinor has received permission to drill an exploration well offshore in the new Kveikje field near the Troll field in the North Sea.

The Norwegian Petroleum Authority said it has granted Equinor permission to drill well 35/10-9 in the PL 827S block from January 2023 using the Deepsea Stavanger drilling rig.

The permit belongs to Equinor with a 51% share and Norwegian DNO with a 49% share. In its latest quarterly report, DNO mentioned the Heisenberg name as 1 of 6 planned exploration wells soon on the PL 827S block.

The success rate of the well is 60%, and the potential resources before drilling range from 40 to 100 million boe.
