Qatar Energy announced the opening of the third oil field in Namibia

The amount of recoverable resources has to be determined.

The state oil and gas company Qatar Energy announced the discovery of light oil reserves in the Jonker-1X exploration well on the shelf of Namibia. This is reported by the press service of the company.

The field was discovered on the basis of drilling under the PEL-39 mining license, which included the ultra-deep blocks 2913A and 2914B in the Orange basin. The total area of blocks – about 12.3 thousand sq. km. The Jonker-1X well was drilled with the Odfjell Deepsea Bollsta semi-submersible oil rig to 6,168 m at a water depth of 2,210 m.

Drilling commenced began in December 2022. Currently, the data obtained are being studied, and further drilling of an appraisal well is planned to determine the volume of recoverable resources.
